Back

Back in Hungary and back blogging (I hope)

I had made it a new year resolution to start blogging again but since I was going to the UK shortly I decided to leave it until I came back.

Since the last entry, I dug up all the spuds, lost half to rats (or maybe mice) and winter pruned the apple trees. As for the rats, I decided that there are worse things than cats in the loft so I unplugged all the gaps I blocked to stop cats getting in. Now there's no rats.

I had a minor mouse problem but setting down traps sorted that out. I only caught the one but there has been no more weird scrabbling noises waking me in the night so it must have been just the one.

I had to go to the UK to get a new passport (although, to be fair, I found out I could have gone to the British Consul to get it renewed) and decided to go by train. After working it out, it was cheaper than a budget airline from Graz or Budapest. Also, I've never travelled across Europe by train so that settled it.

Lots of cross referencing different timetables by different train companies to make sure I had enough time to get the next rain even if the one I was on got delayed. The worst was booking the Eurostar as I constantly re-checked it to make sure I had the right day! Seemed the best way of doing it was to work backwards from my destination.

While I was in the UK waiting for my passport, I met up with several old friends. Hi to Al, Katy et al.

Sorted out my bank account which I forgot to change addresses before I left! I'll be able to close it in a month or so and get a simpler account which doesn't charge me every month.

I also took the opportunity of getting my eyes tested as my eyesight was noticeably worse than when I came here.
